Sex week rolls on

We need a good theology of sex.

Allan Meyer unpacks this thought in Valiant Man when he teaches on the origin of our sexuality which is to be found in the nature of God. God is trinity. God is not a lonely singularity. Trinity life is a life of essential intimacy.

Through creation God designed humanity for spiritual intimacy with Himself. He also designed us for physical & emotional intimacy with our family & friends. Sexual intimacy is thus a significant & deep reflection of Trinitarian intimacy.

In light of this we come to understand that sex has been designed by God with multi-faceted purpose …

gmvm

  • union
  • bonding
  • intimacy
  • procreation
  • pleasure
  • comfort
  • healing
  • discipleship

Sex is powerful. Sex is holy. Sex is unique.

So handle with care & understanding.

The Kindle is fantastic. I read all the reviews about how good the screen is but I was still surprised. Very clever device.

Have you seen one?

Love it John. Keep it up (no pun intended ;) ).

Quick question, you mentioned discipleship as a purpose to sex? That one's got me baffled! Care to elaborate?

Allan talks about discipleship through sex by pointing out that God uses our sexual relations to teach us about intimacy, sharing and to (sometimes) expose our selfishness and relationship issues.

@ Paul haven't seen a Kindle - would love to have a look at to yours - any chance this Sunday?

@ dchapman - sex becomes a means of discipleship due to the need for self-control, right thinking, purity etc that must be exercised to appropriately use this God given gift. When you see a believer thinking about & using sex right you will see a mature disciple of Christ

@ Falkayn good answer!

No worries. I'll bring it.

Thanks John and Falkayn... that makes perfect sense. I'm thinking 'How do I disciple my wife like this?!' LOL.

Totally agree with both of you and it's so true. Sex is such a massive deal for both men and women... dealing with it rightly and in a God honouring way shows great maturity. Good one.
