Why should we experience the localised, manifest the presence of God?

When reading 2 Peter recently I came across this familiar passage of scripture.

For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. He received honor

and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” TNIV

Interestingly Peter’s epistles contain no reference to his walking on water, Lazarus’s resurrection or 5000 being fed. He does however recount this impacting event when  Jesus was transfigured & God spoke.

Twice in this retelling he uses a word related to royalty, writing of his majesty & the Majestic Glory.

Whilst I believe in God’s omnipresence I firmly believe that Christians should experience the localised, manifest presence of God. And these manifestations of God’s presence are designed to impact us with His royalty, His Kingship, His Dominion.

In other words God turns up to remind us who is in charge, who’s calling the shots, who issuing the commands –I’m God, you’re not!

Get into His presence!
